Well I had hoped to have a bit more time to update this blog than I have but I guess this is as good time to update it instead.
Whats happened so far.
Well so far I have been observing the differences and similarities between the two cultures. Its quite similar in the way that people live and work during the day. However at night and afternoon things change. Afternoon and night... Places that seem very dormant become great places where you can have street vendors selling all different types of food. Places that look baren earlier can turn in to all you can eat resturaunts.
The thing you have to remember though is that westerners are quite spoilt. We expect everything to look imensely clean and I for one have had a tough time looking at the food and wondering if its edible. However it is and it tastes great.
The next thing here is the pet problem. The dogs in this city are a bit on the... well homeless side. Everywhere you walk you can see dogs that have no home be it somewhere that there is a bridge or alongside the road. Its a bit disturbing in some areas especially with the rabies scares that happen.
However there are things that I do agree with. Shopping :-) The shops are open from 10am til 10pm EVERY DAY. I mean the big malls have their shops open all the time and I havn't found a time where I have needed one open outside these times. (If there is a time that something is needed a quikck pop in to the 7-11 thats always open)
Also Auzzie banks could take a big look at the Thai banks. Thai banks are open to.... 8pm every night. Thats right. No need to run to get from school or work to the bank... Banks are open and while not as many people are in them during the day its easy to see why there are less problems.
The traffic situation has its moments here. Traffic.. well... There is no way I would ever try driving here. The highway is so hard to travel on becuase people and bikes are weaving in and out of cars that are all going as fast as they can in the strp they are running. I have seen a Taxxi go up to 130kph in a populated area to catch up to other cars.. And the bad things was.. I was in that Taxi at the time :-S
So western society has had its moments on thai culture but looks like in some areas have improves.. maybe auzzie shops (Yes South Australia I am talking to you) and Banks in general can look at the Thai way of doing buisness and sure they won't have their profits but they will have much happier people.
